This year we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

We will view several films that appeared during this tumultuous period and discuss how they can be used in our programs.
The program is being prepared with the cooperation of Hiltrud Schulz from the DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts. The Program presenters will be Dr. Kyle Frackman andVictoria Lenshyn from the German Department of the University of Massachusetts.

I will note a few changes from the last three years. It was very nice to have support during the last three years from both the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Goethe-Institut. This year we do not have the sponsorship of the Commonwealth of Virginia anymore but we do still have the Goethe-Institut as our sponsor. Butwe have to look elsewhere for the support we are not getting from the Commonwealth. The Virginia Chapter of AATG can give some limited support, but the rest will have to come from us. We are therefore asking each applicant to send with his/her application a check in the amount of $75.00. Many of you will recall that this is how we did things in the olden days before the money started pouring in from many directions. In order to keep costs down we are also limiting the number of participants accepted to 24. Others will be put onto a waiting list.

In spite of having to scramble for support, I think that this program can possibly be one of the most interesting programs we have offered. I look forward to hearing from you.
