January 18 – 24, 2008

Landmark’s E Street Cinema, 555 11th Street NW, Washington DC 20004 (Metro: Metro Center)

Experience the best of new German language cinema - join us for Film|Neu, Washington’s 16th annual festival of the newest in eclectic, innovative German, Austrian, and Swiss film!

This year’s version brings films framing issues of national identity, regional allegiances, and globalization. Organized by the Goethe-Institut Washington, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Embassy of Switzerland, the week-long showcase, now in its 16th season, premieres ten new films in Washington with special guests and accompanying events.

The festival opens with the German Film Award-winning sleeper hit Grave Decisions, a comedy about an 11-year-old boy’s plot to commit one crime to absolve himself of another. Other highlights include a new film by Oscar-winning director Pepe Danquart (the speed-climbing documentary To the Limit) and Switzerland’s entry for this year’s foreign-language Oscar, the box office success Late Bloomers.
