Professor Horwege, |
In the spring semesters of 2005 and 2006 we were privileged to
have the services of Stefanie Nauhardt Parker, a young woman from Weissenfels,
Germany with her Magister from the University of Leipzig. She taught two courses
in order to give Professor Horwege some released time to fulfill his duties
as Chair of the Faculty Senate. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. studies at the
University of Virginia
In 2006 two students, Maggie Nicholson and Lindsey spent the summer in Münster and in 2005 Julie Midgley and Megan O'Neil were with the program .In 2002 two Sweet Briar students participated: Karlena Sakas (2005) and Virginia Fowler (2004). One student participated in the Summer Program in Münster in 2001: Christian Martin. Professor Horwege also participated in the Münster Program in 2002 and in 2006.
During the 2000-2001 academic year the German program was also enhanced by the addition of a DuPont Scholar. Maria Morrison, a doctoral candidate at the University of Virginia. She taught one German course per semester and worked with Professor Horwege on some other projects. Lea Tesarova taught a course in German for Business during the second semester.
In 2002-2003) we hosted our second DuPont scholar: William Plail. He came to us from the University of Virginia, where he is completing his dissertation in Germanic Languages and Literatures
During the Fall semester 2001 Ralph Grüneberger
returned to Sweet Briar as a Sweet Briar-VCCA Artist in Residence. He is once
again working with Professor Horwege on the preparation of a collection of his
love poetry in three languages: German, French and English. Professor Horwege
is providing the English translations.
At the Alumnae Reunion in May, 2001, Professor Horwege
had a nice visit with many former Sweet Briar German students.Among them were
Lisa Redd(1986), Parker Schultis
(1991), Chris O'Leary(1981), Rachel Baltus (1996) and Jenni Vance(1991).
