CONSTITUTION FOR THE GERMAN CLUB
SWEET BRIAR COLLEGE

ARTICLE 1. Name

A. The name of this organization shall be the German Club or "Horwege's Heroines", herein referred to as the organization.

ARTICLE II. Purpose

A. The purpose of this organization is to promote and generate interest in German culture and language.

ARTICLE III. Membership

A. The membership of this organization shall be composed of not only German Majors and minors, but of other interested students and members of the Sweet Briar community.

B. To retain membership, members are asked to participate in as many activities of the organization as possible and attend at least 8-9 meetings. No club dues are charged.

ARTICLE IV. Officers
All officers shall be elected each year between April and Club Day in September by a majority of a quorum of the membership of the organization for a term of one year.

A. President

The president of the club shall

a. call and preside over all meetings,

b. represent and/or appoint representatives to all functions of the organization,

c. perform all other functions as may be directed by the organization.

B. Vice-President

The Vice-President shall,

a. preside at all meetings when the President is unable to do so,

b. perform all other functions and duties as may be assigned by the President.

C. Secretary

The secretary shall,

a. record minutes of all meetings of the organization,

b. maintain copies of all official files of the organization,

c maintain all official correspondence of the organization.

D. Treasurer

The treasurer shall

a. keep all financial records of the organization in up-to-date order,

b. advise the officers of the organization and settle all financial transactions,

c. perform all other functions as directed,

d. serve on a Treasurer's council for the Student Government. Association, if required.

E. Additional Officers

The president shall have the power to appoint additional offices and officers when she feels they are needed.

ARTICLE V. Advisor and CEO/Co-Advisor

A. The advisor of this organization shall be the Head of the German Department of Sweet Briar College.

B. The German exchange student shall serve in the capacity of co- advisor/CEO to the organization.

C. The advisors will serve as non-voting members of the organization. It is recommended that all copies of correspondence should be obtained by the advisors and that the advisors should assist with all financial records and all programs of the organization.

ARTICLE VI. Amendments

A. This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of a quorum of the membership.

B. Notification of proposed amendments must be provided at least one meeting prior to voting or as specified by the officers.
